ZAP-X Patient:
Hagen
Diagnosis:
Vestibular Schwannoma
A smiling ZAP-X patient named Hagen is shown in a close-up, black-and-white photograph. He is wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat and a relaxed shirt, seated comfortably in an indoor setting with wooden stools visible in the background. Hagen’s expression is cheerful and relaxed.

“Two and a half years ago, I began noticing hearing loss in my left ear. Initially, I thought it was a temporary issue, similar to a sudden hearing loss I had experienced years before. However, when it didn’t improve, I visited my general practitioner, who found no visible issues and suspected stress-related tinnitus. After seeing a specialist and undergoing a hearing test, the results showed a 30% hearing loss, yet there was no apparent damage to my ear. To be thorough, the doctor recommended an MRI, which ultimately revealed the real cause—a vestibular schwannoma, a benign tumor affecting my hearing.”

“At first, my specialist at the University of Basel, Professor Luigi Mariani, advised a wait-and-watch approach, as the tumor was still relatively small. However, 15 months later, a follow-up MRI showed that the tumor had more than doubled in size, making further observation too risky. At this point, I was presented with two options: undergoing surgery or treating the tumor with the innovative ZAP-X® Gyroscopic Radiosurgery® system in Zurich. Given my preference for non-invasive treatment, I was relieved and excited to learn that ZAP-X was available nearby. With only a handful of these advanced radiosurgery devices worldwide, I felt fortunate to have access to such cutting-edge technology.”

“The process was smooth and reassuring. During my first appointment, a customized mask was created to ensure precise treatment, and shortly after, I underwent the actual radiosurgery session. The team at the Swiss Neuro Radiosurgery Center was exceptional—Maja in Zurich took great care of me, answering all my questions with professionalism and empathy. I was optimistic and eager for the treatment, which turned out to be surprisingly comfortable—I almost fell asleep! Afterward, I felt so good that I enjoyed a luxurious lunch with champagne in Zurich before taking the train back to Basel, where I treated myself to a well-deserved nap.”

“Eight months later, my follow-up MRI confirmed the best possible outcome—the tumor had stopped growing and was effectively eliminated. This was fantastic news for me and an even greater relief for my girlfriend, who had been deeply concerned throughout this journey. Today, I feel perfect. My experience with ZAP-X was outstanding, and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone facing a similar diagnosis.”
